ARTIST STATEMENT

I create landscapes that invite quiet contemplation. Working primarily in charcoal, graphite, and oil, I am drawn to the interplay of light, atmosphere, and the enduring forms of the natural world. My work is less about documenting a particular place than it is about capturing the emotional experience of being there...the stillness of a winding road, the quiet pull of a distant mountain, or the reflective calm of water beneath an expansive sky.

I discovered art later in life after a significant personal transition that challenged me to set aside expectations and begin creating simply for the joy of seeing. What began as curiosity has become a daily practice of observation, encouraging me to slow down and find beauty in moments that are often overlooked.

Whether working from direct observation, photographs, or memories gathered through travel, I simplify each composition to emphasize light, shadow, and atmosphere. Charcoal, in particular, allows me to strip away distraction and focus on the essential relationships between value, form, and mood. Its quiet, monochromatic language mirrors the sense of peace I hope viewers experience in the finished work.

My landscapes are an invitation to pause - to linger in a place where time seems to slow and where familiar scenes become spaces for reflection. My hope is that each piece offers a sense of calm, wonder, and connection to the natural world.
